DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
At the heart of Design and Technology lies creativity, problem-solving and innovation. Our mission is to inspire pupils by placing them in exciting environments where they can tackle real-world challenges, both practically and theoretically, while developing an eye for how ideas become manufactured outcomes shaped by cultural, ethical and industrial influences.

From Year 5 onwards, pupils experience hands-on practical work supported by project-based learning. They gain confidence and independence as they design, test and present their ideas, making full use of Computer Aided Design and Manufacture in every project. Along the way, pupils strengthen their communication, numeracy, literacy and IT skills, with strong cross-curricular links.

The Kenton DT Department nurtures pupils with a passion for innovation and supports those aspiring to scholarships in Design & Technology, with pathways into engineering, architecture, product design and applied mathematics. We also look beyond the workshop: pupils explore the ethics and business of manufacturing through case studies, and embrace emerging technologies such as mobile software, VR and AR to present their prototypes.

Design & Technology is not confined to the classroom. Pupils are also actively involved in stage and prop design for the school play, working closely with scripts, direction and stage resources to bring their ideas to life.
