Another great week of hockey dawns upon us here at Kenton! We are playing Hillcrest at all ages this week. We are also playing Braeside at U11 and U13 age groups.
Will the 1st Boys or Girls get their first win?

The Kenton 1st Boys Hockey took on Turi last Friday afternoon here at school. It was a much improved performance. The boys had several targets to achieve during the game. The 3 main ones were:
1. To improve our marking, especially around our 'D'
2. To fight harder for the ball and not let their heads go down.
3. To improve the accuracy and width of our passing.
I am happy to report that all these areas showed significant improvement.
We went 2 goals up, through great teamwork and understanding of where we should be on the pitch. Unfortunately Turi came back strong and managed to score twice. Final score was 2-2 draw.
As a coach I was delighted with out performance as it was so much better than the one against The Banda. That is all I can ask for.

A hugely exciting couple of fixtures coming up next Saturday 31st January. Kenton's 1st Boys and Girls Hockey Teams will be playing Braeburn on the astroturf at City Park. This is a wonderful opportunity for all the children and it promises to be a splendid morning of sport. Please do come and support your school and enjoy the atmosphere in a first class sporting venue. |

The old cliche 'It's a game of 2 halves' is appropriate here. In the first half we played some great hockey- passing the ball wide, marking our opponents and attacking and defending with gusto. Fantastic hockey Kenton!! In the second half it all fell apart! We let their most dangerous player have the ball all the time!! Final score was 3-0 to The Banda. Kenton 1st boys take on St. Andrew's, Turi tomorrow- lets hope we come back strong. Come and support and cheer us on. 3pm, Top Field. DB |

A wonderful week of sport awaits us at Kenton! We have all our hockey teams playing against The Banda this week. The 1st Boys and Girls are also playing St. Andrew's, Turi on Friday afternoon.
Continuing our desire to get as many children competing on the sports field, every single boy in Year 7 and 8 will be playing against The Banda on Wednesday afternoon.

Parents are reminded that children playing in tournaments for Kenton are expected to stay until after the prizes are given out after the final.
This is a courtesy to whoever may be playing in the final. If Kenton were playing in a final then, we would expect the other schools to stay and watch.
Even if our team has been knocked out, we would have to assume that we might have been competing in the final. Therefore, please do not make any appointments for your child on the assumption that they will be able to go to them. They will remain with their team until the end of the tournament.
Thank you in your help in teaching the pupils good manners at a sporting event.
