Is it too early to think ahead to the Cricket Term? |
|
Never!! As parents are starting to think about their July and August long holiday plans, it would be a good idea to think about the items of cricket equipment a child needs at Kenton.
Every child must have their own box. This is for hygiene purposes.
Everything else the school can provide but, if you child is serious about cricket then they should ideally have their own:
Bat- a child should get used to playing with their own bat for every innings. The bat should not be too heavy. A good test for this is to stand with the left hand (right hand for left handers) at the top of the handle. You should then extend your arm straight down and try to hold the bat up parallel to the ground. Keep the arm straight, do not bend the elbow. If you cannot do this then the bat is too heavy.
Pads and Gloves- a child should get used to their fit and weight and feel comfortable in them. If they are uncomfortable because they always borrow a different pair then their innings is likely to end! ........
Helmet. Years 5-8 use helmets and must bat in one against a hard ball. The above applies equally to helmets!
