As we rapidly approach the end of the term here at Kenton, we must start thinking ahead to the Hockey that all children will play here at school next term. Every child must have a mouthguard to play, even those who only play with a soft ball, as the sticks themselves can be dangerous if handled incorrectly. It would be a good idea for parents to make preparations to fit their child with one now. These can be obtained from either your dentist (for expensive dentist fitted ones), or from a sports shop (eg Nakumatt, Nairobi Sports House etc). These can be fitted at home by following the instructions on the packet. Children should also have their own hockey stick, which should be the correct size for them. A rough guide is that it should reach up to their waist band. Sticks do tend to go out of stock quickly in January, as all the other schools are playing hockey as well and there tends to be a rush then. The sticks are available from the same shops as mentioned above, but if you are travelling abroad there tends to be a better selection. For those going to South Africa over the holidays, then the Sportsman's Warehouse in Cape Town or Johannesburg is a great place to shop for one!
