What's been happening in the art world! |
|
Over the course of the last year the students at Kenton have been involved in a number of different projects. Last Christmas 2007, the Year 7’s made an individual cracker for every member of the Kenton family for the Christmas lunch. The gifts inside the crackers ranged from pom-pom mice to jewellery and they were a great success. The hall was filled with very loud explosions, as we had to improvise the cracker bangs!
Towards the end of the year the Year 8’s were involved in making some bookcases for Kigulu, they then decorated these with there own designs. It was really good to see students putting so much effort into something that was for someone else! The end results were excellent and I am sure the orphans are enjoying them as well as the books we managed to collect to fill them!
At the start of this year we held a proper art exhibition which not only involved the students but also the larger Kenton family. The students who entered were able to see their work framed and for sale and also knew that half the proceeds would go to them. It was very successful and plenty of money was raised for charity. On the opening night around half the pieces were sold! The exhibition is still open for three more weeks so hopefully more students will have the opportunity to sell their work. The exhibition was such a success that we hope to do it again next year.
